How can I verify whether a company is officially registered in mainland China?

1. Start with the Chinese Name or the Credit Code
You need the company’s Chinese name or its Unified Social Credit Code (USCC) to search. The registry — the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System (www.gsxt.gov.cn) — is keyed to the Chinese legal name, and as far as I know there is no English-language search entry point; an English trade name will not find the company.
2. What Anyone Can Check for Free
With the Chinese name or the USCC, anyone can check the basic registration facts for free: the date the company was established, its current registration status (active, deregistered, revoked, or flagged as abnormal in its operations), its registered capital, its legal representative, its registered address, and its business scope.
3. What a Registered Account Adds
For more detail, you need to register an account and log in. You can then see the company’s historical change records, its shareholders and senior officers, and the paid-in status of the registered capital — whether shareholders have actually paid what they subscribed. That last point matters a great deal when you are assessing a counterparty’s commercial risk. Once registered, you can also have the system email the company’s credit information report to your registered email address.
4. The Catch for Foreigners — and the Workarounds
At present, registration requires a Chinese citizen ID number and a Chinese mobile number, so in most cases a foreign national cannot register directly. 一、先备好中文名或统一社会信用代码
必须知道公司的中文名或者统一社会信用代码才能查询。国家企业信用信息公示系统（www.gsxt.gov.cn）以中文法定名称为检索键，目前没有发现其他语言的入口；用英文商号是查不到的。
二、不登录就能免费查到的
只要知道公司的中文名称或统一社会信用代码，就可以查询到公司的注册时间、目前的登记状态（存续、注销、经营异常状态等）、注册资本、法定代表人、住所地、经营范围。
三、注册登录之后多看到的
如果需要了解更多的信息，需要进行注册并登录。登录后可以看到工商的历史变更记录、股东、高管，还能看到注册资本的实缴情况——这对于商业风险能力的评估至关重要。注册后还可以请系统将企业的信用信息公示报告发送到你的注册邮箱。
四、外籍人士的门槛与变通办法
